KS GOP Presidential Caucus - Johnson County

To vote in the caucus, you must be a registered Republican by February 17, 2012.

Caucus proceedings state-wide will begin at 10:00 AM, CST on Saturday, March 10, 2012. In Johnson County, doors will open at 9:00 am to allow voter credentialing. Voting will begin at 10:00 am per KS GOP rules. Doors will close at 1:00 PM. Voters in line at 1:00 pm will be credentialed and allowed to vote. Make sure you bring a state-issued photo ID (i.e. driver's license) to the caucus. Voter registration cards are not required.

To accommodate the voters, we have strategically located one caucus site in each of the seven state Senate Districts throughout the county. If you are registered Republican in Johnson County, you can participate at any of our seven caucus event locations that are listed below. You do not have to go to the site in your state Senate District.

Anyone can show support for their favorite candidate during the caucus. Electioneering at caucus locations is allowed and encouraged outside the facility, in the parking lots, on the sidewalks leading to the building; t-shirts, stickers, signs and literature from candidates are allowed. Anyone who wishes to show support or pass out information about a specific candidate must be respectful of the opinions of other people.

Voting will be by secret ballot. You will only vote for one candidate from a list of eight. You may not vote more than once. Upon the casting of your ballot, you must leave the caucus room. There is no provision to write in a candidate.

Please pass the word to your family, neighbors, friends, co-workers, members of your Church, Parish or Synagogue. Tell classmates, students, members of civic organizations, clubs and other groups. JCRP will provide a speaker to help tell about the caucus. Contact jcrpks@att.net  or (913) 341-8683

How to volunteer for the Johnson County Caucus

The smooth operation of a caucus at seven locations will require hundreds of volunteers. There will be opportunities for everyone and that includes young people. Volunteers with a lap top with wireless capability are a high priority. We will need 10 laptops at each location. Some people will be needed to help direct people as they arrive and move through the caucus experience. It will be a lot of fun. Every effort will be made so volunteers will be assigned to the location of their choice. We will provide orientation.

Volunteers will need to arrive at locations at 8:00 am to set up.
Certification of voters will begin at approximately 9:00 am. Voting will begin at 10:00 am and end at 1:00 pm. The caucus sites must be cleared by 2:00 pm.

Volunteers will also be needed to count the votes; the final count must be reported to Kansas Republican Party by 5:00 pm. Volunteers who would like to work later in the day may be selected to help with this task.
